Designing a private, natural way for women to track digestive health triggers — and surface personalized solutions through their own data.
The Challenge
Women managing digestive health conditions needed a way to log food intake and symptoms that felt private, unobtrusive, and easy to maintain as a daily habit. Existing solutions were either clinical and cold or too generic to surface meaningful patterns. Johnson & Johnson needed a mobile experience that felt like a personal health companion — not a medical form.
The Approach
I designed a system of contextual prompts that fit into the rhythms of a user's day — asking the right questions at the right moments without feeling like data collection. Each touchpoint captured symptoms, food intake, and behavioral signals in a way that felt conversational. The underlying logic matched that input against custom J&J content to surface educated, real-time recommendations aligned with the user's specific condition and the brand's clinical guidelines.
The Outcome
The resulting app gave women a private, personalized window into their own digestive health — and gave Johnson & Johnson a branded platform that reinforced their position in women's health. Users received tailored guidance based on their own patterns, creating a feedback loop that increased engagement and daily habit formation.
